Oksana "Roxy" Rieck

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother,great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Oksana “Roxy” Rieck (nee Pacholko), at the age of 95 years.

Roxy has touched so many lives, both in her family and in the community of Breton. She was a member of the Women’s Institute of Canada and the Hospital Axillary, which helped raise funds in the community. She also held several positions within the Golden Age Club, which led her to be involved in planning events, such as those held on July 1st, including the annual bake sale. Roxy enjoyed spending quality time with her family, like having her grandchildren for summer vacation, family reunions, holidays, or any celebrations. Roxy enjoyed playing bocce ball, in which her team won bronze in the Alberta Senior Games in 1999. She enjoyed bowling (average score of 200 or more), ice/floor curling, golfing, and whist tournaments with friends in the community. Roxy also enjoyed spending time outdoors, either camping, fishing, or attending stampedes like the Buck Lake Stampede. In her later years, she enjoyed a daily coffee time with friends at local restaurants, where they would spend hours chatting and playing cards.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra "Debbie” and husband, Terence “Terry” Sims; son, Larry and wife, Charlene “Char” Rieck. She was also blessed with four grandchildren: Damon Rieck, Amanda “Mandy” Rieck, Erin (née Sims) and husband, Travis Pierce, and Amber Sims and fiancé, Adrian Sawicki. Her legacy will continue on for many generations in her great-grandchildren: Mackenzie Nedov (nee Grant), Noah Rieck and his mother, Briana Currie, as well as her great-great-grandchild, Emma Nedov. She lives on within her sister, Olesia “Lisa”Ketchum (née Pacholko), as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Donald Rieck; parents, Andrew and Pelagia “Bessie” (née Szpylak) Pacholko, along with siblings: Andrew “Andy” and his wife Traute “Violet” Pacholko; Tina and her husband John Henry “Jack” Buchanan; Ann and her husband Samuel Glubish; and Alexander “Alex” Pacholko and former spouse, Ethel Mae Bell.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023, at Breton Community Centre at 1 PM, with Colleen Sekura officiating and Shirley Coble as eulogist. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate directly to either the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
