Garry Wayne Stovin, affectionately known as Stovey, lived a large life and entertained anyone who would listen.

Born on October 5, 1943, in Carievale, Saskatchewan to Gertrude and William Stovin. Stovey passed away peacefully

surrounded by his family in Edmonton on January 1, 2025, following a heart attack.

Left to mourn his passing are his family including partner Evie Prince; daughters: Debbie Henderson, Shelly Barsness

(Lorne), Candice Gordon (Thomas Campbell); sons: Frank (Katrina) Ted, James, and ex-wives Marian Scott and Pat Vos,

brothers Ken (Doreen), Don (Randi), sister Sharon Scherpenzeel (Jan), and a large extended family.

Stovey’s life began on the family ranch, herding cattle in southeastern Saskatchewan and into North Dakota. Spending his

childhood on horseback grew into a lifelong passion of riding and sharing his life with horses. He travelled to Chicago and

trained as a Chiropractor in medical school but returned home to look after his new young family and to work in the oil

patch.

In 1967, he began farming in Whitewood, Saskatchewan and married Marian Scott. So began his 31-year career on the

drilling rigs. Travelling to the cold of high arctic, the heat of the desert in Abu Dhabi, the jungles of Borneo, and many

places in western Canada including northeastern BC, and the foothills of Alberta.

Stovey married Pat Vos and settled in Drayton Valley in 1988, Where he stockpiled gravel, hauled oilfield shacks, did

oilfield sales, prior to his 10 year career with Investors Group.

In recent years, Evie Prince and Stovey enjoyed retirement together dancing regularly – even the day before his passing.

We imagine that by now Stovey has reunited with his brother Jim, and has already made new friends, as no one who met

Stovey was a stranger for long.

A Memorial Service for Stovey will be held on Monday, January 13, at 1 pm at MacKenzie Conference Centre, Drayton

Valley.
