Eric Gunnar Anderson was born September 8,1940 to Gudrun (Bergstrand) Anderson & David T. Anderson in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. He passed away on September 12, 2024 at the age of 84 in the Drayton Valley Hospital.
Eric had four siblings, Bertil (deceased), Lillian of Beaconsfield, Quebec, Stanley (deceased) & Edgar of Beaconsfield, Quebec.
Sisters Joan and Jeanni McBride joined the family in the 1950’s eventually living in the west and kept close contact with Eric.
Eric was also blessed with a good friend, Rusty Hodge of Alder Flats, who made every effort to take care of Eric through his difficult periods and into Eric’s final days.
Eric was trained as a computer programmer at Rolls Royce Aviation in Montreal, and he took those skills with him to the BA Oil Company in Calgary. From early in his life, Eric loved country music. While living in Calgary, he played in lounges, restaurants, and hotels. From 1975 to 1977 he toured Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Eric also worked for the oil trade magazine “Roughneck”.
Eric loved his skiing and was well known in Alberta. He received a life membership from the Calgary Petroleum Ski Club for his volunteer services.
One of his most relaxing and enjoyable summers was spent on the Shuswap on our father’s home-made cabin cruiser.
In his later years Eric lived in Alder Flats, Alberta on a wooded lot where he built his log cabin with a number of outbuildings and kept his many cats. Eric had a passion for outdoors and nature. The land was very relaxing and home to native animals and a stream for fishing.
Eric is sorely missed by the family, Rusty, and friends. May he rest in peace.
