Doreen Gustafson, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2024, at the Drayton Valley Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 8, 1934, in the small town of Forestburg, Alberta, Doreen's life was one defined by warmth, generosity, and an unwavering love for her family.
Doreen was a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew her. She devoted life to raising her daughters, Doris (Ray) Stuhl and Judy Stewart, imparting to them the values of kindness and resilience. She often spoke with pride of her daughters, who echoed her spirit and continue to carry forward her legacy of compassion.
As a grandmother, Doreen’s heart expanded to embrace her grandchildren: Cathy (Wayne) Gulka, Donita (Ron) Anderson, and Dallas (Kami) Stewart. To them, she was more than a grandmother; she was a confidante, a storyteller, and a source of unconditional love. Doreen reveled in the joy of family gatherings, moments filled with laughter, delicious meals, and the comfort of togetherness. Those memories will forever live in the hearts of her grandchildren, reminding them of the special bond they shared.
Her role as great-grandmother brought her immeasurable joy as she welcomed the next generation: Selena Anderson, Kayla Stanicky, Delaney Stewart, Dezy Anderson, Carmen Anderson, Ashley Gulka, Stockton Stewart, and Rylan Stewart. Doreen cherished each child, often seen beaming with delight during visits and celebrations.
Doreen's husband, George, predeceased her in August, 2019, leaving behind a legacy of love that shaped Doreen's life. Though he is no longer with her, the memories they forged together echoed throughout her life, enriching her days with joy.
Doreen Gustafson leaves a profound impact on her family and friends. She will be remembered not only for her devoted heart but also for her ability to bring people together. Those who had the privilege of knowing her will carry with them the lessons she taught and the love she shared.
May her spirit be as everlasting as the love she kindled in the hearts of her family.
Words from her family: Our grief today is a reminder how much we loved our Mother, Grandma, and Great Grandma. As time passes, we will not mourn as we are today, but will always remember moments, memories and times shared. These will be forever held in our hearts. As we unite in our sorrow, let us also rejoice in the knowledge that Mon and Dad are joined once again. They took vows together and dedicated themselves to a never-ending bond of marriage and their eternal love for one another.
Mom was a listener, not a talker, she always said. So, Mom, I know that you are listening today. Know that we grieve the loss and will deeply miss your quiet nature, your gentle spirit and your loving touch.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the compassionate care that Doreen received from Dr. Elfurgi and the staff at the Drayton Valley Hospital.
