It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dean Gregory Newberry, who left us on December 16, 2024, after a life filled with love and adventure. Born on June 16, 1984, in the heart of Drayton Valley, Alberta, Dean lived in this cherished community for most of his life, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness that will be forever etched in the hearts of those who knew him.
Dean was the beloved son of Paula Buttery and Brian (Amy) Newberry, and he cherished every moment spent with his family. He is survived by his loving parents, his sister Shaila (Lonnie) Platz, and a close-knit family that includes his treasured nieces and nephews: Autumn, Hailey, Emma, Jaben, and Judah. The bond he shared with his family was the cornerstone of his life, and he dedicated his time to making memories with them, always eager to share laughter and joy.
He is also survived by his dear grandparents, Donna and Peter Prociuk, along with numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins who will deeply miss his gentle spirit. Dean was predeceased by his grandparents, Frank and Joan Newberry, and several uncles and aunts who held a special place in his heart.
In his professional life, Dean was an accomplished instrumentation technician in the oilfield industry. Yet beyond his work, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an outdoor enthusiast who reveled in the beauty of nature, whether he was camping, boating, or sitting around a campfire with family and friends. Each Christmas morning, Dean took great pride in preparing a festive breakfast, creating cherished traditions that his family will remember fondly.
A lifelong learner, Dean enjoyed diving into a variety of subjects that sparked his curiosity and was always ready to share interesting facts with those around him. His enthusiasm for knowledge and the passion he had for life made every conversation with him a delightful experience.
Dean's family will gather to honor his life and legacy at a private family memorial service, at the Life Church in Drayton Valley on January 6, 2024.
While we mourn the loss of a wonderful son, brother, uncle, and friend, we find solace in the memories we created together and the love that will forever bind us to Dean Gregory Newberry. He will be missed beyond measure, but his spirit will live on in our hearts.
